IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa men’s tennis doubles team of Will Davies and Oliver Okonkwo, ranked No. 56 nationally, fell Sunday afternoon at the ITA National Fall Championships consolation doubles championship at The Tennis Club in Newport Beach, California. Additionally, Morgan Lohan won the round-robin style Navy/Gold Invitational in Annapolis, Maryland.
Michigan’s Fenty/Siimar, ranked No. 50 nationally, snapped Davies/Okonkwo’s three-match win streak on Sunday. Fenty/Siimar won the match in straight sets (6-1, 6-1). They are believed to be the first Iowa doubles team to play in the consolation doubles championship at the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships.
Over three days Lohan played five matches, winning four and claiming the invitational championship. On the first day of the tournament, The Hawkeye junior went undefeated in three-set tiebreakers. On the second day, he had to battle back in the second match of the day after dropping the first, defeating Hofstra in another three-set match. Today in the playoff, Lohan bounced Columbia in straight sets (6-4, 6-4).

“This was a great way to end our fall season with Will and Oliver in the consolation doubles finals at Fall Nationals. It was great to have five of our players competing and have success against the best players in the nation. No doubt this has motivated our entire team to keep training hard over the next few months so we are ready for our first match against Texas Tech on January 17.”
