UNIVERSITY PARK, Penn. — The No. 5 seed University of Iowa soccer team fell to fourth-seeded Penn State, 2-0, Sunday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament at Jeffrey Field. 
Iowa falls to 15-4-1 on the season.
The Nittany Lions took a two goal lead into halftime following 21st and 35th-minute goals.
Iowa had multiple scoring chances down the stretch, but were unable to capitalize. The Hawkeyes out shot Penn State, 4-1, in the second half, and 12-6 for the game.
HEAD COACH DAVE DIIANNI SAYS…
“All year this team has given us its best and today was the same. We played with courage and competitiveness against a good Penn State team and unfortunately today, we were punished for two mistakes and didn’t capitalize on the opportunities we had.
“We have had a fantastic season, won some big games on the road and accomplished something that has only been done once in our history, winning 15 regular season games. I am proud of how this group of women has grown and developed as players and people this season. This group has done enough to get a call in a week. Now, we wait a week to find out.”
OF NOTE
– It is only the third time Iowa has been shutout this season.
– The Hawkeyes’ defense allowed six shots — its 12th game surrendering seven or fewer shots.
