Hawkeye Fan Shop — A Black & Gold Store | Hawk Talk Monthly — November | Fight For Iowa
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. — The University of Iowa men’s tennis doubles team of Will Davies and Oliver Okonkwo, ranked No. 56 nationally, picked up another victory on Friday afternoon at the ITA National Fall Championships held at The Tennis Club in Newport Beach, California.
Davies/Okonkwo dropped Oklahoma State’s Hammond/Hudd in decisive fashion (6-1, 6-4). The Hawkeye duo has now put together back-to-back wins and will be in tomorrow’s consolation semifinals.
Senior Kareem Allaf knocked off the No. 109 ranked player in the country, Virginia’s Ryan Goetz in a tightly contested match, (6-1, 2-6, 7-5) on Friday. His victory over Goetz tied Allaf for third most career singles wins in program history. In the quarterfinals of the consolation bracket, Allaf fell to No. 110 Raphael Lambling of South Carolina, (6-1, 6-4).
Davies/Okonkwo and Clegg/Snezhko are the first Hawkeye doubles teams to qualify for this prestigious event in 20 years. Iowa is one of only three schools in the country (Baylor, Oklahoma State) to have multiple teams compete in the 32-team bracket.
