Drkulec, Haus Named CoSIDA 1st-Team Academic All-Americans

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- University of Iowa senior Natalie Winters earned United Soccer Coaches second-team All-North Region honors, it was announced Monday.  It is the second all-region nod of her career.

IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa seniors Hannah Drkulec and Kaleigh Haus have been named CoSIDA First-Team Academic All-Americans, it was announced Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America. 
 
It is the second straight year Haus and Drkulec have earned Academic All-America distinction. Haus was a first-team selection in 2018, while Drkulec was named to the second team.  They were the first Academic All-Americans in program history.
 
Iowa is the only school in the nation with two first-team Academic All-Americans and one of four schools in the country to have two Academic All-Americans (first, second, or third teams) along with Alabama, Navy, and Stanford.
 
Drkulec, a defender from Windsor, Ontario, Canada, is majoring in biomedical engineering, where she carries a 4.09 grade point average.  On the field, Drkulec started all 21 games, where she tied for second on the team with five goals and had two assists. Defensively, she helped the Hawkeyes post eight shutouts.
 
Haus, a forward from Des Moines, Iowa, is majoring in biomedical engineering, where she has a 4.07 grade point average.  Haus started 12 games before going down with a season-ending injury.  She finished the 2019 season with four goals and one assist.
 
The Hawkeyes enjoyed a stellar 2019 season, tying a single-season school record with 15 victories, while earning a berth into the NCAA Tournament for the second time in program history.  Iowa tied a school record with seven Big Ten wins to finish fifth in the regular season standings, which is tied for the second best league finish in program history.
