IOWA CITY, Iowa. -- The University of Iowa women's gymnastics team notched a season-high team score, but fell to Illinois, 195.650-195.400, on Saturday evening in Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

IOWA CITY, Iowa. — The University of Iowa women’s gymnastics team notched a season-high team score, but fell to Illinois, 195.650-195.400, on Saturday evening in Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

The GymHawks registered season-high scores on bars (49.200), and floor (49.400).

“We lost tonight but we aren’t going to walk away upset and we shouldn’t. They controlled the things that they could control and they did what we wanted them to do. The Big Ten is so good. You want the conference to be that way, you want to be challenged.”

VAULT
Iowa came out hot with a season best of 9.700 from senior Nicole Chow. Sophomore Erin Castle scored a career-best 9.750. Freshman Lauren Guerin tied a season and career best of 9.750.  Junior Charlotte Sullivan earned a 9.750.

BARS
The GymHawks built on their momentum on bars with a season-best team score of 49.200. The GymHawks earned two 9.900s from Jax Kranitz (career best) and Nicole Chow (tied a career best). Sophomore Emma Hartzler earned a season best of 9.800. Sullivan tied a season best of 9.800. Sophomore Maddie Kampschroeder earned a 9.800, and junior Clair Kaji earned a 9.775.

BEAM
Iowa continued on beam. Chow and Kaji both earned 9.825. Freshman Allie Gilchrist earned a 9.750, while freshman Bridget Kilian scored a 9.725.

FLOOR
The GymHawks earned a trio of 9.900s by sophomore Erin Castle (career  best), Kaji (season best), and Guerin (tied a career best). That led the GymHawks to a season-high team score on floor of 49.400. Freshman Allie Gilchrist started off floor strong for the GymHawks with a career high of 9.850. Sullivan earned a career best of a 9.850. Freshman Bridget Killian followed suit and earned a 9.850.

MEET HIGHLIGHTS

  • The GymHawks earned a season-high team score (195.400) and event season-highs on bars (49.200) and floor (49.400).  
  • Three GymHawks earned 9.900s on floor — Erin Castle, Clair Kaji, and Lauren Guerin — while the other three GymHawks on floor earned 9.850s — Charlotte Sullivan, Bridget Killian, and Allie Gilchrist.
  • Senior Nicole Chow earned a season best on vault of 9.700.
  • The GymHawks earned two 9.900’s on bars from Jax Kranitz, a career best, and Nicole Chow tied a career best.
  • Sophomore Erin Castle scored a career best of 9.750 on vault.
  • Sullivan tied a season best of 9.800 on vault.
  • Also on vault freshman Lauren Guerin tied a season and career best of 9.750
  • Sophomore Emma Hartzler earned a season best of 9.800.
