IOWA CITY, Iowa – The 10th-ranked University of Iowa men’s gymnastics team defeated No. 7 Nebraska, 406.700-403.550, on Saturday evening at the UI Field House. Iowa’s 406.700 marked a season high.

“I would say we had five really good events but we did not finish on our last, which was high bar, and we have done well on that this season. We have just been plugging away. It was nice to hit a stride right away on the first event and carry that through to get some energy and rhythm. I think they performed incredibly well today and they have been training well. It is really nice to be rewarded like this, where it shows that their attention to detail is showing up, and I expect this to continue along.”

“It got harder with the five on five up count, so everyone was really looking to depend on each other hitting. One fall could be detrimental to the next guy, and we all knew that. We all put our trust in each other and we have all been trying to push the lineups to try and get in there and that helps us to improve. That all leads to the final score and it worked out well today.”
MEET HIGHLIGHTS
Iowa earned a team-high score on five rotations including: floor, pommel horse, rings, vault, and parallel bars. Andrew Herrador captured the all-around title with a career-best 79.850. Senior Jake Brodarzon captured two event titles on rings and parallel bars. The Hawkeyes posted eleven career-bests and eight season bests.

Floor
Huang led the Hawkeyes with a career-high 14.600 to place first. Herrador posted a season-high 14.200 (2nd) and freshman Evan Davis crushed his season-best with a 13.700 (T-3rd) to contribute to Iowa’s season-best team score of 68.400.Pommel Horse
Senior Kevin Johnson and sophomore Addison Chung both posted career bests with 14.000 (1st) and 13.300 (T5th), respectively. Davis registered a season-best 13.050 to tie for eighth and junior Nick Merryman garnered a season-best 13.550 (3rd). Iowa topped their season-best pommel horse score with a 67.200.Rings
