IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa women’s tennis team fell to Colorado on Sunday morning at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex, 4-3.
Colorado took the doubles point by winning at the one and the two positions. Sara Nayar and Monica Malinen defeated Michelle Bacalla and Elise van Heuvelen Treadwell 6-4. Ky Ecton and Sophia Derivan beat Danielle Bauers and Ashleigh Jacobs 6-2.
Colorado and Iowa split six singles matches. Colorado got points from the two, three, and six positions. Antonia Balzert beat Samantha Mannix 6-2, 7-6. Derivan defeated Jacobs 6-3, 6-2. Megan Forster defeated Danielle Burich 6-1, 6-7, 6-1. Van Heuevelen Treadwell beat Malinen 6-2, 6-2 to improve to a team leading 5-1 in singles. Bacalla defeated Nayar 6-4, 3-6, 7-5. Bauers defeated Maria Campos 6-3, 4-6, 6-1.

“No doubt we are really disappointed. We have been on the short side of four non-conference 4-3 losses. In all of those we have lost the doubles point, so it really is so key that we start to focus on trying to turn around some doubles. Obviously, I always think there are some chances in singles to make it turn, but boy getting the doubles point would really change some things for us.”
