IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa freshman Nia Carter has been named to the 2020 Justin’s World of Softball (JWOS) All-Freshman team, JWOS announced Monday. Carter is the lone Big Ten player named to the team.
Carter is one of 18 freshmen to be named to the All-Freshman team, becoming the first Hawkeye to win an All-Freshman award since Stacy May won Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2003.
The Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., native led the Big Ten with a .509 batting average. On Feb. 24, Carter was named Big Ten Player and Freshman of the Week after a standout performance at the Hawai’i Invitational on Feb. 21-23. Both honors were the first of her career and marked the first time Iowa has had a player win Big Ten Freshman and Player of the Week honors.
