IOWA CITY, Iowa — For the second straight year, University of Iowa men’s golf senior Benton Weinberg has been named a Second Wave Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar. The announcement was made by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).
To be eligible for All-America Scholar consideration, an individual must be an upperclassman academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team’s competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
Weinberg recorded eight rounds at or below par while averaging 73.7 strokes per 18 holes. The native of Potomac, Maryland, posted his best finish at the Golfweek Conference Challenge, tying for 19th with a three-round total of 218 (+2). He carded a season-best 69 in the first round of the Golfweek Conference Challenge. A finance major, Weinberg was recognized on the Academic All-Big Ten Team and named the team’s Big Ten Sportsmanship Award honoree.
