DES MOINES, Iowa — Six of the eight University of Iowa men’s golfers competing unattached at the Zach Johnson Invitational are in the top 10 after 36 holes, including Gonzalo Leal Montero who is tied for the lead at four-over par (146). Forty-seven golfers battled windy conditions on Monday at the par-71 Glen Oaks Country Club.
Alex Schaake is in third place one shot back at five-over par (147). Mac McClear (+7, 149), Garrett Tighe (+8, 150), Charles Jahn (+9, 151), and Jake Rowe (+10, 152) round out the top 10 in sixth, seventh, eighth, and ninth place, respectively. Tighe sank six birdies on Monday to lead the field.
Benton Weinberg bounced back after a first-round 82 with an even-par 71 in the second round, the lowest 18-hole score of the day in the field. Weinberg is in 11th place at 11-over par (153). Matthew Garside is in 43rd place (+26, 168).
