THIS WEEK:
The No. 28 University of Iowa men’s tennis team will host Louisville on Friday at 5 p.m. (CT) and No. 16 Cornell on Sunday at 11 a.m. (CT). Both matches will take place at the Hawkeye Tennis & Recreation Complex. Admission is free to the public.
LAST TIME OUT:
• The Hawkeyes swept their competition with wins over No. 50 VCU (4-3) and Nebraska (5-2) last weekend at the HTRC. Iowa improved to 8-1 at home.
LOUISVILLE BREAKDOWN:
• The Cardinals enter this week’s action with a 9-4 record, last beating Xavier on Tuesday (4-0).
• The Louisville lineup features Tin Chen, who is ranked No. 91 nationally in singles.
• The Hawkeyes are 2-0 all-time against the Cardinals, dating back to 1990, when Iowa won (4-3) in Iowa City.
#16 CORNELL BREAKDOWN:
• The Big Red enter this week 7-1 overall and will play at Drake on Friday before traveling to Iowa on Sunday.
• The Big Red are 33-5 this season in singles matches.
• Cornell leads the all-time series with Iowa, 4-1. The Big Red won last year’s contest in New York (5-2). The Hawkeyes beat Cornell (4-2) in 2016 in New Jersey.
HAWKEYE NOTABLES:
• Redshirt senior Kareem Allaf is ranked a career-best No. 51 in the country.
• Will Davies and Oliver Okonkwo are ranked 12th nationally in doubles.
• Allaf is tied for the second most singles wins in a program history (84).
• Allaf is second in school history with 143 combined singles and doubles victories. He needs 17 wins to catch Tyler Cleveland (160).
• Two Hawkeyes own 10 or more singles wins (Allaf and Davies). Davis has won 10 straight singles matches, setting a new career high.
• Davies is one win away from tying Allaf for 10th on Iowa’s career Top 10 list in doubles victories (58).
