PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla.  — Twenty-two runs.

The University of Iowa baseball team scored 22 runs, including 12 in the ninth inning, to defeat Georgetown 22-2, and pick up its fifth straight win on Saturday afternoon at the Snowbird Classic.  The Hawkeyes are 8-4 overall.

Iowa’s 22 runs scored are the most since 2016 when Iowa also scored 22 against Air Force at Duane Banks Field.

“We were able to get some runs on the board in the first inning,” head coach Rick Heller said. “We barreled some balls up off their starter. It was consistent innings after that the rest of the game. We were constantly battling and putting good at-bats together. We had good at-bats on a day that wasn’t a great day to hit. “

Senior Ben Norman, who went 1-for-3 with career-high four walks, a career-high five runs and was on base six times, led the game off with one of Iowa’s four doubles. Two hits, two walks, and a hit-by-pitch later, the Hawkeyes were out to a 4-0 lead and never looked back.

The Hawkeyes led 5-0 after two innings and tacked on five more runs from the fifth to the seventh to lead 10-2 after seven innings.

Left-handed pitcher Trenton Wallace (1-0) relieved starting pitcher Grant Judkins after four innings to earn the win. Wallace, a junior from Rock Island, Illinois, threw three scoreless innings of relief, allowing only one hit with six strikeouts. He has only allowed four hits and two runs in 9 1/3 innings of relief this season, with 15 strikeouts and only two walks.

Iowa’s 12-run ninth inning saw 15 Hawkeyes come to the plate. Eleven of Iowa’s 12 runs in the inning were scored without recording an out.

Junior Izaya Fullard added a double and a single to his line with three RBIs in the inning alone. The junior from North Liberty, Iowa, finished the day 4-for-6 with five RBIs and four runs scored. The four runs scored set a new career high, and the four hits and five RBIs tied career highs.

Junior Dylan Nedved recorded his second double of the game in the ninth inning to finish 2-for-5 with two runs and four RBIs — all of which were career highs.

Freshman Peyton Williams and redshirt freshman Brayden Frazier were the final two Hawkeyes to drive in at least three runs. Frazier’s three RBIs were a career high and it is Williams’ third straight game with three RBIs. William’s 15 RBIs are second on the team behind Fullard’s 18.

Every Iowa position player entered the game in the three hour and 30 minute game.
