In the third quarter both teams’ defenses battled, resulting in another shotless quarter.
Heading into the fourth quarter, the score was even, 0-0. The Hawkeyes put the pressure on Rutgers goalkeeper taking three shots. In the 54th minute of play, junior Lokke Stribos broke the silence. HEARING FROM HEAD COACH LISA CELLUCI
“We knew they would tackle us hard, so we had to have great strength on our receptions and have the ability to move the ball and pull them out of space. We put them under pressure in each quarter, stayed patient and chipped away until we found the back of the net. I was proud of our problem solving and resilience today.”
- This is Iowa’s first 3-0 start since 2013.
- Lokke Stribos’s goal records her first goal on the season.
- Four Hawkeyes recorded shots on goal, including the game-winning goal from L. Stribos, and one each from Holley, Zellner, and senior Maddy Murphy.
- Iowa has won two consecutive games over the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, including a 2-1 victory during the 2019 season.
The Hawkeyes will challenge Penn State for the second time this season on Sunday at 11:45 a.m. in Virginia Beach, Virginia, at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex.
