CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — The 32nd-ranked University of Iowa men’s tennis team lost, 7-0, at No. 9 Illinois on Friday evening at the Atkins Tennis Center, snapping its three-match win streak.
Illinois (6-2, 4-1) won the doubles point with victories on courts two and three. Iowa’s 17th-ranked doubles duo of Will Davies and Oliver Okonkwo remained unbeaten, winning 6-2 to improve to 7-0 this season.
The Fighting Illini swept all six singles matches in straight sets. Four of the six opponents the Hawkeyes faced were nationally ranked. Junior Nikita Snezhko saw his first singles action in Big Ten play on court five.
Iowa (3-3, 3-1) returns to action on Sunday at No. 29 Northwestern (4-3, 3-2) at noon at the Combe Tennis Center.
