“Ronan [Kleu] and Mac [McClear] both put in strong performances.  Mac led after two rounds and Ronan played his way into contention with a good front nine today. It is disappointing to lose ground today after such a good start. We were three-under at the turn, made a few bogies to start the back nine and just allowed it to compound.”

  • McClear and Kleu’s 54-hole scores of 206 (-4) were the best among Big Ten golfers competing at the Notre Dame Fighting Irish Classic. Michigan State and Rutgers also competed at the event.
  • McClear’s 4.3 (-4) stroke average on par fives tied for the third best in the field.
  • Kleu (12), McClear (nine), senior Gonzalo Leal Montero (seven), fifth-year senior Jake Rowe (five), and freshman Ian Meyer (two) combined for Iowa’s 35 birdies at the event. Sophomore Felipe Pedraza also sank five birdies competing as an individual, while McClear had one eagle on the week.

Iowa prepares for the Williams Cup Presented by STITCH Golf to close the fall season. Hosted by the University of North Carolina, the event will tee off Oct. 24-25 in Wilmington, North Carolina, at Eagle Point Golf Club.
