Wilmington, N.C. – The University of Iowa men’s golf team tied for ninth at the Williams Cup on Tuesday to close out the fall season. The Hawkeyes finished the week at Eagle Point Golf Club with a 54-hole team score of 895 (+31) to close the fall season.
Junior Mac McClear earned Iowa’s highest finish at the event placing 23rd with a four-over par score of 220 through 54 holes. The defending Big Ten champion shot 74 (+2) in the final round.
Junior Ronan Kleu also shot a 74 (+2) in the third round, matching McClear for the lowest Hawkeye score of the day.
Senior Gonzalo Leal Montero had Iowa’s next best finish at the event, tying for 36th place with a 54-hole score of 224 (+8). Kleu was two strokes behind Montero at 10-over par (226), while junior Garrett Tighe finished with a score of 230 (+14) and freshman Ian Meyer shot a 231 (+15).

HAWKEYE NOTEABLES
- McClear, Leal Montero, and Kleu each posted seven birdies at the Williams Cup. Tighe (six) and Meyer (three) brought Iowa’s total to 30 birdies at the event.
- McClear placed the third highest among Big Ten competitors on the leaderboard; Michigan State and Indiana also competed at the Williams Cup.
