Iowa Track & Field Announces 2021-22 Schedule

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa track and field program announced its 2021-22 schedule on Tuesday. The Hawkeyes’ schedule features four home meets in Iowa City, including three-consecutive indoor meets to open the season – capped off by the fifth annual Larry Wieczorak Invitational on Jan. 21-22 – and the Musco Twilight XXI during the outdoor season.

The Iowa track and field program, led by director of track and field Joey Woody, comes off a Big Ten Championship sweep from the men — for the first time since 1963. The men’s 2021 outdoor crown marks its second consecutive. Woody also became the first coach in program history to sweep the indoor and outdoor coach of the year awards.

The Hawkeyes kick off their indoor season, hosting the Jimmy Grant Invitational on Dec. 10-11, and wrap up with the Big Ten Championships (Feb. 25-26) at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio, followed by the NCAA Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Ala., on March 11-12.

The outdoor schedule is highlighted by 10 trips to the west coast and a trip to the east coast for the Florida Relays in Gainesville, Fla., March 31-April 2. Iowa is set to compete in two meets in the Hawkeye state, hosting the Musco Twilight XXI at Francis X. Cretzmeyer Track, April 22-23, before heading to Des Moines for the Drake Relays, April 27-30.

The Hawkeyes travel to Minneapolis, Minn., for the Big Ten Championships May 13-15 before heading to Fayetteville, Ark., for the NCAA West Preliminaries (May 25-28). The NCAA Outdoor Championships will be held at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., on June 8-11.
