IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa women’s swimming and diving team swept the diving events in Friday’s Big Ten dual against Minnesota at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center.
The Gophers won the dual, 156-104.
“We’re really proud of where we’re at,” said head coach Nathan Mundt. “We know we have smaller numbers right now, but we’re starting to build a foundation to get better for the future.”
The Hawkeyes’ impressive performance in the diving well was led by senior Samantha Tamborski, who placed first off the 3-meter springboard with a season-best score of 324.10. She also went on to place third off the 1-meter with a 270.80. Both scores achieved NCAA Zone Diving standards.
Freshman Makayla Hughbanks won the 1-meter springboard with 274.45 for her first career victory, while sophomore Sarah Ballard was fourth with a 268.40.
Iowa’s junior Aleksandra Olesiak paced the Hawkeyes in the pool, notching a pair of second place finishes. She was the runner-up in the 200 IM in 2:11.29 and posted a season-best 1:05.03 in the 100 breast. Olesiak also finished third in the 200 breast (2:24.49).
The Hawkeyes recorded seven season-best times in between the lanes. Junior Ariel Wooden posted a season-best in the 50 free (25.02), 100 free (55.15), and 100 fly (1:02.40), while junior Anna Brooker found a new season-best, finishing with 5:07.63 in the 500 free.
Iowa will have two weeks off before traveling to Nebraska on Oct. 23 to face the Huskers at 11 a.m. (CT).
