IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa Softball team defeated the Kirkwood Community College Eagles at home tonight, 3-1, in a nine-inning contest.
The Hawkeyes utilized multiple pitchers throughout the game. The first two innings were led by freshman RHP Kat Serna, the third and partial fourth were pitched by freshman RHP Emma Henderson. At the top of the fourth Iowa switched out Henderson for sophomore IF/RHP Denali Loecker, who pitched through the seventh inning. At the top of the eighth freshman RHP Haley Downe came in to pitch. The final pitcher for the ninth inning was senior RHP Breanna Vasquez.
In the bottom of the fifth, Iowa’s Brylee Klosterman hit a ground ball to the right side, sending Zoe Schulte home for the Hawkeye’s first run of the night.
Iowa’s second run came at the bottom of the sixth, as Kate Claypool scored from second after a fielding error by Kirkwood.
Kirkwood plated its only run at the top of the eighth.
Iowa’s final run of the night came in the bottom of the ninth when Riley Sheehy crossed home off a single by Klosterman.
