NCAA Champion Mark Reiland Passes

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Former University of Iowa national champion Mark Reiland passed away Dec. 8, 2021.

Reiland won the 1991 NCAA title at 167 pounds and was a member of Iowa’s 1991 and 1992 national championship teams. He earned NCAA All-America honors in 1989.

After graduating from Iowa, Reiland led Iowa City West High School to seven state titles, two traditional and five state dual championships. He coached 26 individual state champions.

Reiland was on the board at USA Wrestling and served as the organization’s first vice-president. He was inducted into the Glen Brand Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2010 and the Iowa Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2016. He was presented the National Wrestling Hall of Fame Lifetime Service to Wrestling Award in 2020.
