Hawkeyes Wrap Regular Season In South Bend

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The University of Iowa track and field competed at the Alex Wilson Invitational on Saturday at the Loftus Sports Center and wrapped up its regular season portion of the schedule.

“It was a great tune-up meet for us heading into the Big Ten Championships next weekend,” Iowa Director of Track and Field Joey Woody said.

Freshman Miya Brines won the 60-meter hurdles and recorded a big personal-best time (8.43) to move to ninth all-time at Iowa in the event. Sophomore teammates Myreanna Bebe (8.49), Paige Magee (8.51) and Tionna Tobias (8.63) finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively.

On the men’s side, sophomores Gratt Reed and Grant Conway finished third and fourth in the hurdles. Reed ran 7.80 in the prelims and 7.82 in the final. Conway crossed in 7.87.

“I was excited to see the hurdlers take a step forward and get back to PR-form,” Woody said. “Gratt [Reed] and Grant [Conway] had a great day and Miya [Brines] made huge improvements over the last two weeks and secured a big PR today.”

Sophomore Austin Kresley had a pair of strong performances in the short sprints. Kresley won the 200 meters (21.41) and finished as runner up in the 60 meters (6.79) with a new season-best time. Junior Wayne Lawrence, Jr. finished second to Kresley in the 200 meters (21.46) and picked up a win in the 400 meters (46.91).

The Hawkeyes recorded multiple personal-best times in the mile. Sophomore Ellie Twedt went under 5:10 for the first time in her career, finishing 12th in 5:08.95. For the men, freshman Ian Geisler (4:15.09), senior Konner Sommer (4:15.97) and freshman Yohana Yual (4:16.68) all ran career-best times.
