COLLEGE PARK, Maryland – The University of Iowa softball team was defeated, 8-5, by Maryland on Friday evening at the Maryland Softball Stadium.
Senior Breanna Vasquez got the start in the circle for the Hawkeyes throwing 2.2 innings. Freshman Devyn Greer threw 3.1 innings of relief and took the loss moving to 2-3 on the season.
Freshman Tristin Doster and senior Riley Sheehy each had two hits for Iowa. Junior Kalena Burns had two RBIs. Sophomore Brylee Klosterman was 1-for-1 with three walks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Iowa scored first after Klosterman led off the game with a walk. Carter moved her over to second with a sacrifice bunt, and Doster moved her to third with a ground out. Burns singled through the left side to score her.
The Hawkeyes scored two runs in the second after sophomore Grace Banes singled, sophomore Marissa Peek singled, and Klosterman doubled down the left field line to score both runners.
Maryland scored a run in their half of the of the second off a hit and two errors.
Iowa added a run in the third after Doster doubled to right field, and Sheehy hit a run-scoring single to center.
The Terrapins took the lead in the third scoring four runs on three hits and an error.
Iowa scored a run in the sixth to tie the game after Maras, Klosterman, and Carter drew back-to-back-to-back walks. Burns reached on a fielder’s choice scoring Maras from third.
Maryland regained the lead with three runs on three hits and an error in the bottom of the sixth inning.
