IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa softball team was defeated by Ohio State, 10-5, in the series finale on Sunday at Pearl Field.
Freshman Devyn Greer got the start for the Hawkeyes throwing one third of an inning. Sophomore Denali Loecker threw 3 and two-thirds of relief. Freshman Katherine Serna came in and threw three innings of scoreless work while striking out four as the Hawkeyes attempted to mount a comeback.
Two Hawkeyes reached base in all four plate appearances. Junior Nia Carter was 4-for-4 with an RBI, while sophomore Brylee Klosterman was 3-for-3 with a walk.
Loecker tallied four RBIs in the contest for the Hawkeyes, including a three-run home run to centerfield.
Three of Iowa’s 11 hits were multiple-base hits (two doubles; one home run). The Hawkeyes were error-free, while the Buckeyes committed two errors.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Ohio State (26-10, 7-5) got on the board first with three runs on four hits in the first inning. The Buckeyes added three runs in the second frame.
One tally in the third and three more in the fourth saw the Buckeyes lead swell to 10.
Iowa (18-23, 1-13) scored three runs in the fifth inning after Klosterman singled, Carter singled, and Loecker homered off the scoreboard.
The Hawkeyes added two runs in the sixth as Klosterman walked, Carter doubled, and Loecker doubled to score both runners.
