NAPLES, Fl. – The University of Iowa men’s golf team is tied for eighth place after round one at the Calusa Cup. One of two events hosted by the Hawkeyes in the month of April, No. 16 Florida leads the field of some of the nation’s top talent after the first round. The event features seven of the top 25 ranked teams in men’s college golf. Just four teams completed the first round under par.
Iowa finished the day with a team score of 296 (+8) at Calusa Pines Golf Club, with two Hawkeyes positioned in the top-25 on the leaderboard.
Junior Mac McClear leads the way for Iowa, tied for ninth heading into Monday’s second round at two-under par (70). McClear drained a team-best four birdies on Golf Digest’s No. 74 ranked course in the country, shooting one under par on each nine.
Senior Gonzalo Leal Montero is next, shooting 73 (+1), posting an even par 36 on the back nine. Freshman Ian Meyer finished tied for 33rd with a four-over par round of 75, which featured an even par front nine. Junior Ronan Kleu and sophomore Callum Macfie ate tied for 36th at 77 (+5).
