Iowa Drops Series Finale to Northwestern

EVANSTON, Illinois — The University of Iowa softball team lost to No. 8 Northwestern, 9-0, in five innings on Sunday at Sharon J. Drysdale Field.

Sophomore Denali Loecker got the start in the circle throwing two innings. Senior Breanna Vasquez threw one and one third of an inning in relief, and freshman Devyn Greer threw two thirds of an inning.

Loecker, sophomore Grace Banes, and freshman Tristin Doster each recorded a hit for the Hawkeyes.

The Wildcats outhit the Hawkeyes, 8-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Northwestern (38-7, 18-2) put together an eight-running inning in the third. The Wildcats used six hits including three walks, five singles, and a grand slam. The Wildcats added a run in the fourth off two hits.

Iowa (19-29, 2-18) travels to Northern Iowa (27-11, 18-1) on Wednesday at 5 p.m. (CT).
