9 Hawkeyes Head to Ohio for U20/U23 World Team Trials

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Seven current and two incoming University of Iowa wrestlers head to Geneva, Ohio, for the U23 and U20 World Team Trials from June 3-5 at the Spire Institute.

The Hawkeyes will have six wrestlers competing in the U23 division in Drew Bennett (65 kg), Cobe Siebrecht (70 kg), Patrick Kennedy (74 kg), Brennan Swafford (79 kg), Abe Assad (86 kg) and Tony Cassioppi (125 kg). Caleb Rathjen (70 kg), Aiden Riggins (74 kg) and Kolby Franklin (92 kg) will wrestle in the U20 Division.

Cassioppi is looking to defend his 125 kg title. The Illinois native won the UWW U23 Nationals in 2021 before going on win a gold medal at the 2021 U23 World Championships in Belgrade, Serbia.

Action begins Saturday for both U20 and U23 at 8:30 a.m. (CT). U20 medal matches and finals will begin at 3 p.m. Saturday. U23 quarters, semifinals, consolation, and medal matches will begin at 9 a.m. Sunday.

The champion in each U20 and U23 weight class qualifies to represent the United States at the 2022 UWW World Championships.
