IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa softball defeated Simpson College, 22-0, on Saturday at Pearl Field in a 9-inning exhibition.
Junior transfer Maren Judisch got the start for the Hawkeyes in the circle. She got through the first inning unscathed after allowing the first two Storm hitters on-base. In the second inning Simpson loaded the bases but Judsich was able to shut the door to keep the score, 0-0.
Iowa used a different pitcher every inning for the rest of the game. Freshmen right-handed pitchers Jalen Adams and Kelsey Winters made their debuts in a Hawkeye uniform making quick work in the third and ninth innings, respectively.
In the bottom of the third, Iowa got on the board with an RBI single off the bat of sophomore Anna Henderson that scored freshman Avery Jackson. The Hawkeyes got another run on the board in the fourth inning.
The Hawkeyes widened the gap in the sixth scoring eight runs all with two outs. Freshman Anna Streff hit a bases clearing double to extend the Iowa lead to five. Sophomore transfer Tatianna Roman and junior Amber DeSena hit back-to-back doubles to add on one more. DeSena scored on the next batter, thanks to a single off the bat of sophomore Haley Downe.
The Iowa bats stayed hot in the seventh scoring 12 runs. Sophomore Tristin Doster had six RBIs in the inning with a three-run home run and a bases clearing double.
