Taylor and Valencia Set To Compete at U23 World Championships

IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa wrestlers Felicity Taylor and Nyla Valencia are set to compete Wednesday-Friday at the UWW U23 World Championships in Pontevedra, Spain. The 2022 U23 World Championships run Oct. 15-23 at the Pontevedra Municipal Sports Hall.

Valencia is the United States representative at 50 kg. Taylor is representing the team at 53 kg.

Valencia will face the winner of Sarra Hamdi of Tunisia vs. Svenja Jungo of Switzerland. Taylor will wrestle Aikaterini Vekri of Greece.

Qualification rounds for 50 kg begin at 3:30 a.m. (CT) on Wednesday and the finals are Thursday at 11 a.m. (CT). Qualification rounds for 53 kg start Thursday at 3:30 a.m. (CT) and finals are at 11 a.m. on Friday.

Taylor and Valencia qualified for the U23 World Championships by winning their respective brackets at the UWW U23 Nationals in May.
