Iowa Helmet Decal to Honor Bill Brashier

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa football team will honor former Hawkeye assistant coach Bill Brashier with a “BB” helmet decal on Friday when the Hawkeyes host Nebraska in the Heroes Game.

The decal will be placed on the back left side of the helmet, just above the American flag. Brashier, who recently passed at the age of 93, retired from the Iowa coaching staff following the 1995 season. He joined Hayden Fry’s original coaching staff in 1978, serving as defensive secondary coach before being named defensive coordinator. He was named assistant head coach prior to the 1983 season.

During Brashier’s Iowa tenure, the Hawkeyes won three Big Ten titles and appeared in 12 bowl games, including three Rose Bowls. The Hawkeyes won eight or more games in 10 of Brashier’s 17 seasons on the Iowa staff.

Friday’s game will kick off at 3:01 p.m. (CT) and it will be televised on BTN. The game will also serve as Senior Day for senior members of the Hawkeye football program.
