IOWA CITY, Iowa – The No. 16 Iowa women’s basketball team defeated No. 10 Iowa State, 70-57, in the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk series inside a packed Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Wednesday night.
Three Hawkeyes finished in double digits, with All-American Caitlin Clark stuffing the stat sheet, finishing just shy of a triple-double with 19 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists, as well as tying her career best of five steals. Fifth year Monika Czinano recorded her eighth double-double, scoring 18 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Redshirt senior Kate Martin scored 13, going 3-for-4 from behind the arc.
Iowa had a slow first half, scoring 23 points and shooting 29 percent from the field. The Hawkeyes went to work in the third quarter, holding the Cyclones to only eight points. Clark drained a three from the logo to come within one, and Czinano made a jumper to take the lead back. Sophomore Addison O’Grady grabbed an offensive rebound to make a layup at the buzzer to head into the fourth up by 14. O’Grady finished with six points and four rebounds.
The Hawkeyes carried the momentum into the fourth, going on a 10-0 run to maintain the lead and come away with the win.
