IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa senior Spencer Lee has been named the Big Ten Wrestler of the Week, it was announced Tuesday by the league office. The honor is Lee’s third this season and the seventh of his career.
The Murrysville, Pennsylvania, native earned the distinction after recording a 51-second fall over Oklahoma State’s Reese Witcraft on Feb. 19 in Carver-Hawkeye Arena. It was Lee’s eighth pin this season, his 34th career fall (28th coming in the first period) and his 11th career fall in under one minute.
Lee’s victory ran his winning streak to 52 consecutive matches dating back to the 2019 season and he improves to 14-0 this season with 13 bonus point victories (eight falls, three majors, two tech falls).
The win came in Lee’s final match inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena, where he finished his Hawkeye career with a 26-0 record.
Lee previously earned Big Ten Wrestler of the Week honors on Jan. 11 and Jan. 24 this season. He also earned the distinction once during the 2017-18 season, twice during the 2020-21 campaign and once last season.
