ROUND ROCK, Texas – The University of Iowa baseball team was defeated by Sam Houston, 6-0, on Friday night at Dell Diamond in the Round Rock Classic.
The Bearcats out hit the Hawkeyes 15-3.
RHP Ty Langenberg got the start for the Hawkeyes throwing four and two thirds’ innings allowing three earned runs with six strike outs.
Sam Houston’s RHP Coltin Atkinson earned the win on the mound allowing just two hits over seven innings with seven strike outs.
“He was really impressive,” said head coach Rick Heller. “He just pounded the zone. Pretty much had command of whatever he wanted, whenever he wanted. The disappointing part for us was that he did a lot with fastballs, we weren’t getting our A swings off.”
Raider Tello was 2-for-4 with a pair of singles for Iowa and Keaton Anthony added a single in the bottom of the ninth. Brennen Dorighi and Brayden Frazier each recorded a walk.
“For whatever reason, we hit the skids tonight offensively,” said Heller. “That was a little bit surprising and unexpected, but it happens. We just have to go back to the drawing board, wipe it away and come out tomorrow with a clean slate.”
