Taylor Named to Walter Camp Preseason FBS All-America Team

IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa senior punter Tory Taylor has been named a 2023 Walter Camp Preseason Football Bowl Subdivision All-American, presented by 777 Partners. The announcement was made Friday by the Walter Camp Football Foundation.

Taylor was named as a member of the second team defense. He is one of 14 players from the Big Ten Conference named to the first or second team.

As a junior, Taylor earned first-team All-America honors by the FWAA, Phil Steele and Pro Football Focus and a second-team accolade by the Associated Press. A permanent team captain and Reggie Roby Special Teams Award recipient, Taylor was also a first-team All-Big Ten selection by the conference media and Phil Steele and a third-team honoree by the Big Ten coaches.

The Melbourne, Australia, native handled all punting duties in 2022, averaging 45.4 yards on 72 punts with a long of 70. He ranked second in the Big Ten and 11th nationally and his 3,766 yards broke the single season school record for a second straight season. Taylor placed 38 punts inside the 20 with just 11 touchbacks and he had 27 punts of 50 or more yards. Opponents averaged just 4.4 yards on 21 returns.

For his career, Taylor has a 45.4 average on 202 punts for 9,178 yards. Forty-seven percent of his punts (95 of 202) have been downed inside the 20 and 63 punts have traveled 50 or more yards.

The Hawkeyes open the season with two of their first three games at home inside Kinnick Stadium. Iowa will host Utah State on Sept. 2 before traveling to Iowa State for the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series match-up on Sept. 9. The Hawkeyes close out nonconference play, hosting Western Michigan on Sept. 16.
