DES MOINES, Iowa – The University of Iowa track and field distance group kicked off the 2023 Drake Relays with five personal bests.
Junior Nick Trattner with a bronze performance in the 1,500 meters. The Naperville, Illinois native crossed the finish line in 3:47.96 to set his career best. Sophomore Ian Geisler also posted his personal best in the race, finishing in 3:55.60.
In the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase, junior Jack Pendergast saw his fastest time as he crossed the line in 9:04.89, missing Iowa’s top-10 performance list by four-tenths of a second.
Freshman Hayden Kuhn produced his fastest 5,000 meters of the season with a time of 14:33.56.
On the women’s side, senior Maddie Block finished fourth (35:45.92) in the 10,000 meters, and junior Abby Ryon crossed the 5,000-meter finish line in 17:29.83 to finish 15th.
The Hawkeyes begin day two of the Drake Relays with the women’s discus throw at 11 a.m. CT on Friday.
