IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa head gymnastics coach Larissa Libby has announced the elevation of Rachel David to assistant coach for the 2023-24 season. David has served as the volunteer assistant coach since 2020.
“I am absolutely thrilled to be officially welcoming Rachel to our staff,” said Head Coach Libby. “Rachel is an Iowa native and has been around this program in several capacities since she was in high school. Rachel has been with us for some of the most significant moments in our team’s history, and it feels good to be officially bringing her on board as an assistant coach.”
David was a part of the 2021 regular season Big Ten Championship staff and has helped the team to three straight NCAA regional appearances. Prior to being named the volunteer assistant, David was a student manager for the GymHawks from 2018-20.
A North Liberty, Iowa, native, David graduated from the University of Iowa in 2020 with a degree in sport and recreation management with a concentration in coaching and a minor in physical activity and exercise nutrition.
“The loyalty Rachel has shown to this team and our staff is matched only by her dedication and love for the university she grew up watching from the stands,” Coach Libby added.
David previously served as a coach for the Iowa Gymnastics Academy from 2016-20, where she was also a club gymnast under Coach Libby prior to enrolling at the University of Iowa.
