IOWA CITY, Iowa – The third-ranked University of Iowa Field hockey team fell to No. 2 Northwestern, 2-0, in its second loss of the season on Friday afternoon at Grant Field.
The loss drops the Hawkeyes’ record to 10-2 overall and 2-2 in Big Ten play.
After a scoreless first half, Northwestern took the lead two minutes into the third quarter after Ilse Tromp scored off a penalty corner assisted by Alia Marshall and Lauren Hunter.
Northwestern’s Lauren Wadas gave the Wildcats an insurance goal in the 48th minute, unassisted.
OF NOTE…
• Sophomore Mia Magnotta recorded a career-high nine saves in today’s game bringing her total to 31 on the season.
• The Hawkeyes have only allowed eight goals in 12 games this season.
• Six out of eight goals surrendered have come against ranked opponents.
• Today’s game was Iowa’s first time being shutout this season.
