No. 6 Hawkeyes Top No. 5 Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky – The sixth-ranked University of Iowa field hockey team downed No. 5 Louisville, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon at Trager Stadium.

Iowa improves to 12-2 on the season. Sophomore Mia Magnotta recorded seven saves to Louisville’s four.

“Today was a fantastic win against a very good Louisville team,” said head coach Lisa Cellucci. “The Hawks were dialed in from start to finish. Mia Magnotta had some world class saves down the stretch. We will enjoy this and get prepared for another important road trip.”

Freshman Dionne van Aalsum gave the Hawkeyes the lead in the 7th minute of the game, unassisted.

In the games’ 56th minute van Aalsum found the back of the goal off a penalty corner assisted by junior Annika Herbine, giving Iowa an insurance goal.

Louisville’s Rylie Wollerton scored the Cardinals lone goal of the game with ten seconds left to play.

OF NOTE…
– The Hawkeyes recorded their fifth win against a ranked opponent this season.
– Van Aalsum has scored in 11 out of 14 games this season. The nation’s leader in goals now has 25 goals in the 14 games.
– The Hawkeyes have allowed nine goals in 14 games.
– Magnotta has 43 saves on the season.
