IOWA CITY, Iowa — The Daily Iowan and the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Iowa are excited to announce a photo and essay book chronicling this celebrated Iowa women’s basketball season.
The book will feature photos taken by Daily Iowan photographers (from games, practices and behind-the-scenes with the team), essays from campus and national experts and thought-leaders in women’s athletics, and stories written by journalism students about this significant moment in Iowa athletics and women’s basketball.
The book will be published in the immediate weeks following the season and available in late April or early May. The book is available to pre-order at dailyiowan.com, and $1 of all pre-sales will be donated to the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital.
“I’m so thrilled about the opportunity for SJMC and Daily Iowan students to work on this book project to capture such a compelling moment for women’s basketball in Iowa and beyond,” said Melissa Tully, professor and director of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication.
Tully will serve as the publisher of the book along with Jason Brummond, publisher of The Daily Iowan.
Proceeds from the book will support hands-on learning experiences and travel opportunities for University of Iowa students, which are central to the mission of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication and The Daily Iowan.
“The book will capture the unique and generational impact this team has made in our community, across Iowa and around the nation,” Brummond said.
The Daily Iowan is the independent, non-profit student newspaper at the University of Iowa and regarded as one of the best campus newspapers in the country. The School of Journalism and Mass Communication is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2024 and proud to be a part of the No. 1 public university in the country in writing and communication.
