WBB Game Notes: Rutgers

PROGRAM QUICK HITS
• Iowa broke the WBB all-time attendance record for a single game with 55,646 on hand for the Crossover at Kinnick exhibition against DePaul.
• National Player of the Year candidate, Caitlin Clark, is the first Division-I player to record 3,000+ points, 900+ assists, and 800+ rebounds in a career.
• Gabbie Marshall became the first Iowa women’s basketball player to register 200+ 3-pointers made and 200+ steals in a career.
• Iowa has two AP Top 20 wins this season.
• UI is off to its fifth 14-1 start under Lisa Bluder.
• The Hawkeyes won the 2023 Gulf Coast Showcase in Estero, Fla., with three games in three days. Clark was named the Tournament MVP.
• Since 2008, Bluder’s teams own a 236-43 record inside of Carver-Hawkeye Arena. In that stretch, the Hawkeyes have posted three undefeated seasons at home.
• Over the last nine years, Iowa has dropped the second-fewest regular season home games in the Big Ten.
• Iowa’s 2023-24 roster is comprised of two fifth-year, one graduate, one senior, five juniors, three sophomores, and two freshmen. Four Hawkeyes are Iowa natives, four from Illinois, two from Michigan, and one each from Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, Ohio.
• Six Big Ten regular-season games will be on a nationally broadcast platform (either NBC or FOX), the most in conference history. The Hawkeyes are featured in four of the sixcontests – Indiana (Jan. 13/FOX), at Ohio State (Jan. 21/NBC), at Maryland (Feb. 3/FOX),Ohio State (March 3/FOX).
• Iowa WBB has helped sellout or break an attendance record in 26 of 32 games this season. Tickets are available to catch the Hawkeyes against Purdue, Ohio State, Nebraska, and Indiana. All of which are on the road. UI helped set attendance records at OSU, Nebraska, and Indiana a season ago.
• The Hawkeyes had a nation’s best six wins against AP Top 10 opponents last season.
• For the first time in the Bluder era, the Hawkeyes knocked off an AP Top 10 team in the month of November. It has only occurred one other time in school history.
• Bluder owns a 508-250 (.669) record and a 250-141 (.638) conference mark at Iowa. In her 39 seasons as a head coach, Bluder is 864-392 (.688).

THIS WEEK
The fourth-ranked Hawkeyes will travel to Rutgers on Jan. 5. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. (CT) inside a sold-out Jersey Mike’s Arena in Piscataway, New Jersey.

• Brooks is in his eighth year as the play-by-play announcer for the Iowa women’s basketball team. He has been Iowa football’s sideline reporter since 2004. Brooks has called seven different Iowa sports on radio or television.
• Reedy will begin her first full season providing color for radio with the Iowa women’s basketball program.
• Reedy was four-year letter winner from 2002-06 at Iowa and is a native of Dysart, Iowa.

THE SERIES
• Iowa leads the all-time series, 12-3.
• After dropping the first two meetings, Iowa is 12-1 against the Scarlet Knights.
• This is the 16th meeting between the two programs.
• UI set a Big Ten program record with 111 points against Rutgers on Feb. 12, 2023 inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
• Iowa has won the last four matchups.
• This is Iowa’s first roadtrip to The RAC since the 2019-20 season.

• Clark is now a part Big Ten’s top-10 list for most career double-doubles in a career (49). She leads active Big Ten players.
• Marshall (142) and Martin (140) are eyeing Monika Czinano’s games played record. (162)
• Iowa is 7-3 when Clark records 40 or more points.
• Clark has 50 career games with 25+ points, 5+ assists, and 5+ rebounds. (NCAA Best)
• Over the last 25 seasons, no has recorded more 30+ point games in men’s or women’s college basketball than Clark. (45)
• In four consecutive games, Hannah Stuelke has scored 15+ points and shot 60% or better from the floor.
• Kate Martin has scored 10+ points in eight of the last 10 games.
• The Hawkeyes are off to their sixth 14-1 start in program history.
• Bluder has led Iowa to a pair of 14-1 starts. (2017-18)
• The road has not been a daunting task to date for Iowa. They came into Friday’s matchup a perfect 3-0 in true road contests in 2023-24. The Hawkeyes have won those initial contests by an average margin of 24 points per contest. They have posted a 12-4 record in their last 16 true road contests played overall.
• While not known as defensive demons, the Hawkeyes have made some strides on that end in the early going. They were allowing 66.5 ppg on the season, the fourth highest mark in the B1G entering Friday’s matchup with Rutgers. However, that is nearly 6.0 ppg less than what Iowa surrendered a season ago (71.8 ppg).
• Clark has three career triple-doubles of the 35-point variety. All other players in women’s college basketball history have four.
• Caitlin Clark is now the NCAA’s fifth all-time leading scorer.
• Clark has registered 25+ points, 5+ assists, and 5+ rebounds in eight out of the last nine games.
• Iowa is currently riding a Big Ten-best 11-game winning streak.

SCOUTING RUTGERS
• Rutgers owns a 6-10 (0-3) overall record this season.
• RU is currently riding a five-game losing streak.
• Rutgers fell at the buzzer on Tuesday night at Purdue, 77-76.
• Against the Boilermakers, Destiny Adams led the way for the Scarlet Knights with a 23-point, 11-rebound double-double. Jillian Huerter (16), Lisa Thompson (16) and Mya Petticord (14) reached double figure scoring as well.
• In addition to Adams, Chyna Cornwell also registered double digits off the glass, bringing in 11 boards.
• The Scarlet Knights are 6-4 at home this year.
• Has four student-athletes averaging 8.0+ ppg in 2023-24.
• Chyna Cornwell leads the Scarlet Knights on the boards with 8.3 rebounds per game.
• Kaylene Smikle is pacing Rutgers at 16.1 ppg.
