Hawkeyes to Play in Tulane Classic presented by Chad Brownstein

THIS WEEK
The University of Iowa women’s golf team heads to New Orleans, Louisiana, to compete in the Tulane Classic presented by Chad Brownstein. The 54-hole tournament will be held from March 10-12 at English Turn Country Club (par 72, 6,280 yards). Action begins with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. (CT).

THE LINEUP
For the first time this season, all eight Hawkeyes will be in tournament action. Iowa’s lineup will include sophomore Madison Dabagia, sophomore Kaitlyn Hanna, junior Paula Miranda, sophomore Riley Lewis and sophomore Shannyn Vogler. Freshmen Ximena Benites, Maura Peters and Olivia Salonek will be competing as individuals.

THE FIELD
The 17-team field includes: Cal Poly (93), Central Arkansas (133), Colorado State (50), Columbia (176), Harvard (108), Howard (163), Iowa (90), Memphis (149), Missouri (83), North Carolina A&T (239), Notre Dame (75), Princeton (179), Southern Mississippi (135), Texas State (53), Tulane (134), UTEP (148) and Wichita State (168). (NCAA rankings are in parentheses).

THE COURSE
English Turn Country Club has a rolling terrain with personality on every hole, including bunkers, large waste bunkers, plentiful grass depressions and mounds which line the sculpted fairways. The Signature Course at English Turn was originally designed in 1988 for the New Orleans PGA Tour event. This 6,280 yard, par-72 course is home to undulating greens, water in play on 17 of the 18 holes and the signature 15th island green.

LAST MEET
Iowa finished eighth out of 19 teams at the Momentum Transportation UNF Collegiate in Jacksonville, Florida. Sophomore Madison Dabagia notched the highest finish of her career, tying for fourth place with a seven-under par 209 (66-70-73), tying the school record for the second consecutive week. Iowa’s 868 score is the third-best in program history.

RETURNING TO NEW ORLEANS
The Hawkeyes placed fifth last spring in New Orleans, finishing with a 54-hole total of 919. Madison Dabagia recorded her first career top 10 finish, shooting a 226 (77-74-75).

MADI’S SPRING SUCCESS
Sophomore Madison Dabagia is enjoying a breakout spring season, as the Indiana native has shot at or below par in seven of her nine rounds. Dabagia has a 71.00 scoring average after shooting consecutive seven-under par 209s in Iowa’s last two tournaments. The 209 is tied for the school record.
• Dabagia fired a six-under par 66 in the opening round at the UNF Collegiate, tying the school record that was previously set in 2021.
• For the year, Dabagia has a team-best 72.28 scoring average over 18 rounds. She averages a team-best 3.50 birdies per round, which has led to a team-best three top 20 finishes.

OF NOTE…
• Sophomore Madison Dabagia and junior Paula Miranda tied the 54-hole school record, firing seven-under par 209s at the Westbrook Spring Invitational. Dabagia matched the record a second consecutive week in Jacksonville.
• Sophomore Kaitlyn Hanna had a career-low score of 216 (E) at the Westbrook Invitational. The Omaha native has a 72.94 scoring average with eight rounds at or below par this spring.
• Freshmen Maura Peters and Olivia Salonek will be playing in their first collegiate tournaments this weekend in New Orleans.
• The Hawkeyes finished with team 18, 36 and 54-hole school records at the Westbrook Spring Invitational. Iowa has five of the top 16 rounds and two of the top three 54-hole scores in school history this spring.
• Iowa has 23 sub-par rounds and 12 even par rounds, individually, this season.
• The team has been in the red in four individual rounds this season.

Iowa will have three weeks off before returning to action on April 7-9 at the Chattanooga Classic in Tennessee.
