DES MOINES, Iowa – University of Iowa track and field opened competition at the Drake Relays on Thursday, as well as the Kip Janvrin Open, hosted by Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa.
Sophomore Hayden Kuhn placed 13th in the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase, clocking in at 9:05.99. Junior Yohana Yual finished with a mark of 9:11.94 (20th) and senior Jack Pendergast finished in 9:35.38 (31st).
In the seeded men’s 5,000 meters at Drake, sophomore Will Ryan took 14th with a time of 14:20.95.
Junior Miriam Sandeen placed eighth in the unseeded women’s 5,000 meters with a lifetime best 16:59.13 mark. Senior Kelli Tosic took 18th in the event, running 17:53.58.
At the Kip Janvrin, three Hawkeyes set personal records in the 1,500 meters. Sophomore Jalyssa Blazek placed 14th in 4:45.25, while freshman Cameron Kalaway took 15th in 4:45.40 and freshman Clare Kelly placed 16th running 4:46.18.
