Notes: 4 GymHawks to Compete at NCAA Regionals

THIS WEEK

Four University of Iowa gymnasts, Emily Erb, Ilka Juk, Bailey Libby, and Karina Muñoz will travel to Berkeley, California to represent the team at the NCAA California Regional. The GymHawks will compete April 5th-7th at the Walter A. Haas Jr. Pavilion on the campus of University of California, Berkeley.

PREVIEWING THE MEET

• Junior Ilka Juk will represent the GymHawks on beam in Session I of regionals. She will compete on beam with Arizona State.
• This is Juk’s second time competing in NCAA Regionals on beam. She has a National Qualifying Score of 9.900 and a season-high of 9.925.
• Sophomore Emily Erb will compete on the floor in Session I of regionals. She will compete on floor with Arizona State.
• Erb has competed on the floor at every meet this season where she had three top-three finishes with a season high of 9.950. She has an NQS of 9.895.
• Sophomore Bailey Libby will also compete on the floor in session I and rotate with Denver.
• Libby has scored a 9.900 five times throughout the season, and was named to the all-champion- ship team at the Big Ten Championships. She has an NQS of 9.895.
• Sophomore Karina Muñoz has been selected to compete in the all-around in Session II of regionals. She will rotate with either Southern Utah or San Jose State.
• Muñoz was an all-Big Ten first team selection after competing in the all-around in six meets. She has an NQS 39.470.

MUÑOZ AND JUK EARN ALL-BIG TEN HONORS

• Sophomore Karina Muñoz and junior Ilka Juk earned All-Big Ten honors. Muñoz earned first-team honors and Juk was named to the second team.
• Muñoz won 14 event titles and posted 30 top-three finishes this season. She competed in the all-around in each of the last six meets and took home three titles. She posted 11 scores of a 9.900 or higher this season.
• Muñoz has a NQS of 9.905 on beam. She ranks third in the Big Ten and 35th nationally in the event. She is ranked sixth in the conference and 27th nationally for the all-around with an NQS of 39.470.
• Juk posted a season-high, 9.925, at the Big Five and in Nashville. That score put her in the Iowa record books, tied for ninth in school history.
• The Vancouver, Canada, native has a NQS of 9.900 and ranks sixth in the Big Ten on the event. Juk had
five scores of 9.900 or above on the beam. Juk has also competed on bars at every meet this season with a season average of 9.770, and a season-high of 9.825.

BAILEY LIBBY SHINES AT B1G CHAMPIONSHIPS

• Freshman Eva Volpe has been named the Big Ten Freshman of the week three times this season.
• The Pearland, Texas, native earned the third distinction after competing in the all-around for the seventh time this season against Ohio State and scored a 39.300.
• The freshman is the only Hawkeye who has competed in the all-around event at every meet this season. Volpe is the only Hawkeye to earn Big Ten weekly honors this season.
