Walker Finishes as Semifinalist at U.S. Olympic Trials

EUGENE, Ore. – Senior Kalen Walker concluded his season with a 10.22 finish in the semifinals of the 100-meter dash on Sunday night at Hayward Field.

Walker placed 21st overall after starting in lane one and finishing seventh in heat three. Christian Coleman and Brandon Hicklin earned the automatic qualifying bids from the heat.

Walker was the lead leg of Iowa’s title-winning 4×100 relay team at the Big Ten Championships in May. He also was a first-team All-American in the 60 meters indoors, breaking Iowa’s school record several times throughout the season.

HEAR FROM DIRECTOR OF TRACK AND FIELD JOEY WOODY
“I’m incredibly proud of Kalen coming back from injury to, not only compete at the trials, but make the semifinals. He’s had a tremendous season, finishing as NCAA runner-up in the 60 meters indoors and Big Ten Champion in the 4×1. It’s not where he expects to be, but I think the experience will continue to stoke that fire for next year.”

UP NEXT: Seniors Kat Moody and Gratt Reed compete in the qualifier rounds of their respective events on Monday. Moody opens in the discus at 7 p.m., while Reed gets set for the 110-meter hurdles at 7:05. Alumni Laulauga Tausaga and Jamal Britt will join Moody and Reed, respectively, in the discus and hurdles.
