IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa junior Marcus Morgan was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday in the 9th Round of the 2024 Major League Baseball Draft. Morgan was the 282nd pick overall.
Morgan is the 33rd player drafted under head coach Rick Heller.
The Iowa City, Iowa, native had a 2-4 record in 16 appearances with 13 starts in 2024. The right-hander tallied 64 strikeouts over 54.1 innings.
Morgan appeared in 43 career games for Iowa with a 7-6 record and a 5.67 ERA. He started 31 games for Iowa and struck out 162 in 135 innings of work.
The Hawkeyes finished the 2024 season with a 31-23 overall record. Iowa finished fourth in the Big Ten regular season standings and made its ninth straight Big Ten Tournament appearance.
