IOWA CITY, Iowa – Three University of Iowa women’s golfers – senior Paula Miranda, junior Riley Lewis and sophomore Ximena Benites – have been named Big Ten Players to Watch, it was announced Thursday by the league office.
Miranda was one of the team’s top finishers in the season-opening Badger Invitational, tying for 20th place with a 54-hole total of 225. It was Miranda’s seventh career top 20 finish. The Mexico native has a 74.62 scoring average over 94.5 career rounds.
It is the second time in Miranda’s career she has been named to preseason list.
Lewis, who was named to the preseason list for the first time in her career, posted a career-best 74.26 scoring average as a sophomore. The Edwardsville, Illinois, native has a 75.35 scoring average over 57 career rounds.
Benites, who also earned her first career preseason nod, tied for 20th at the season-opening Badger Invitational. It was her third career top 20 finish. In seven career tournaments, the Peru native has a 75.18 scoring average over 27 rounds.
The Hawkeyes will return to action Sept. 23-24 at the Cavalier Regional Preview in Charlottesville, Virginia.
