No. 6 Hawkeyes Roll Past New Hampshire

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The No. 6 ranked University of Iowa field hockey team poured in five goals on Friday afternoon at Grant Field. The Hawkeyes defeated New Hampshire, 5-0.

“It was great to get some goals on the board,” said head coach Lisa Cellucci. “New Hampshire is perennially a very good team. The name of their game is transition and that’s what we saw on film and what they try to do, and did do to us at times today. A big part of our game was our defensive four limiting the transition. When we did that well, we were in complete command and when we didn’t, we were exposed. I feel really glad that were able to find a way in each quarter to upgrade a bit and get some goals on the board and put the game away.”

The Hawkeyes outshot the Wildcats, 14 to six, and attempted 10 corners to New Hampshire’s five.

Hannah Maney and Alex Wesneski both found the back of the net in the second quarter for their first scores of the season. Dionne van Aalsum scored her second goal of the year in the 32nd minute.

In the fourth quarter Milly Short scored on a penalty stroke and Jacey Wittel scored in the 48th minute to put the game away.

Mia Magnotta made four saves in net as the goalkeeper and the Iowa defense recorded its second straight shutout on Grant Field.
