EVANSTON, Ill. – The fourth-ranked University of Iowa field hockey team fell against No. 1 Northwestern, 5-0, on Friday afternoon at Lakeside Field.
The Hawkeyes and Wildcats played a scoreless first quarter, before Northwestern struck first at the 15:48 mark. Four minutes later Ashley Sessa extended Northwestern’s lead to two.
Northwestern further extended their lead in the third quarter, with Sessa’s second goal of the contest at 37:28 and at 39:47 off a corner. In the fourth quarter, the Wildcats added another goal.
Dionne van Aalsum took a team high four shots for Iowa including two on goal, but the Hawkeyes were stymied by the Wildcats.
Northwestern outshot the Hawkeyes 23-to-6 and had nine penalty corners to the Hawkeyes’ two.
Mia Magnotta made a career-high 10 saves in net for Iowa.
