DES MOINES, Iowa – The University of Iowa softball team defeated Drake, 6-3, on Sunday afternoon at Buel Field in a 9-inning exhibition.
The Hawkeyes used the combination of freshmen Talia Tretton, Sofia Elliot and junior Jalen Adams in the circle against the Bulldogs. They allowed three runs on five hits and four walks while striking out 10.
Iowa opened the scoring in the top of the third as three runs were plated on five hits. Drake responded in the fourth and tied the game, 3-3, on a three run-home run. The Hawkeyes retook the lead, 4-3, in the fifth on an RBI triple from sophomore Soo-Jin Berry.
The Hawkeyes extended their lead in the seventh as sophomore Devin Simon came around to score on an RBI double. Iowa brought another run home on an RBI triple from sophomore Jena Young to make it, 6-3.
Iowa finished the game with six runs on 17 hits and three Bulldog errors.
The Hawkeyes return to action on Friday October 4 as they host Southeastern Community College for the final home game of the fall. First pitch at Bob Pearl Field is scheduled for 4 p.m. CT.
