IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa women’s golf team holds a seven-shot lead over Wisconsin through two rounds at the Diane Thomason Invitational presented by Scheels. The Hawkeyes shot a 36-hole total of 587 (288-299) on Monday at Finkbine Golf Course.
Iowa’s opening round 288 was the team’s top round of the fall season and its first round at or below par.
The Hawkeyes have five players in the top 20 on the individual leaderboard with senior Paula Miranda leading the tournament with a one-under par 143 (72-71). Miranda is the only player under par in the field.
Miranda, who had nine birdies and 20 pars on the day, shot her first two rounds at or below par this fall. She holds a one-shot lead over UTSA’s Olivia Williams, who sits at even par 144.
Junior Riley Lewis, who is playing as an individual, is in a tie for seventh place with a three over par 147 (73-74), while sophomore Ximena Benites is in a tie for 10th with a five over 149 (73-76).
Sophomore Maura Peters had the low round of the day, shooting a three-under par 69 over her first 18 holes. The score was Peters’ collegiate best round. She and junior Kaitlyn Hanna are both tied for 16th place with 150s.
