Notes: Hawkeyes to Open Fall at Badger Invitational

The University of Iowa women’s golf team opens the fall season, traveling to Madison, Wisconsin, for the Badger Invitational. The Hawkeyes begin the tournament Sunday with a 9 a.m. (CT) tee time.

THIS WEEK
The University of Iowa women’s golf team opens the fall season, traveling to Madison, Wisconsin, for the Badger Invitational. The 54-hole tournament will be held Sept. 8-9 at the University Ridge Golf Course (par 72, 6,248-yards). The Hawkeyes begin the tournament Sunday with a 9 a.m. (CT) tee time.

THE LINEUP
Iowa’s season-opening lineup includes: senior Paula Miranda, sophomore Maura Peters, sophomore Ximena Benites, junior Riley Lewis and junior Kaitlyn Hanna. Loyola (Ill.) transfer Adie Maki will be competing as an individual.

THE FIELD
The 12-team field includes: Augusta, Delaware, FIU, Iowa, Nebraska, Rutgers, Sam Houston, St. Thomas, South Dakota State, South Florida, UTSA and Yale.

THE COURSE
The University Ridge Golf Course gets its name from its unique landscape that was created by the last retreating glacier. This course has long and wide-open fairways with rolling and well- manicured greens on the front nine while its back nine is framed by tall trees everywhere. The course, which was built by Robert Trent Jones, was the site of the 1998 NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championship as well as the 1998 NCAA Championships.

A REVIEW: 2023 BADGER INVITATIONAL
The Hawkeyes finished eighth at the 2023 Badger Invitational, firing a 54-hole total of 889 (296- 294-299). Paula Miranda was Iowa’s top finisher, placing 22nd with a four-over par 220 (72-73- 75).

COACHING STAFF CHANGE
Nic Robinson is in his first season as the associate head coach and recruiting coordinator, joining the program following three seasons as an assistant coach at Tennessee. Robinson has also coached collegiately at Charlotte and Asbury University.

OF NOTE…
● Junior Adie Maki joins the women’s golf team from Loyola (Ill.), where she had a 75.59
scoring average over 29 rounds as a sophomore. Maki tallied three top 10 and six top
20 finishes.
● Senior Paula Miranda qualified for the 124th U.S. Women’s Amateur in Tulsa,
Oklahoma. Miranda was a part of a playoff to get to the match play portion of the event.
● Three of Iowa’s top returnees all posted scoring averages in the 70s last season: Riley Lewis (74.26), Hanna (74.63) and Miranda (74.83).
● Sophomore Maura Peters is making her debut in the Iowa lineup this weekend in Madison.

The Hawkeyes will return to action Sept. 23-24, traveling to Charlottesville, Virginia, for the Cavalier Regional Preview.
